Good Friday-A Funeral for JesusFriday | 06:00 PM - 07:30 PM (04/03/2015) , Duration: 01:30 Place: Second Congregational Church
This is the holiest day of the year.
Join us for a Funeral for Jesus held in our church sanctuary. Music, scripture, and reflections will be included in this memorial service.
On Good Friday evening, at 6:00 pm, all are invited to join us in the sanctuary for a memorial service to remember and celebrate the life of Jesus. It will remind you of other memorial services you have been to, with flowers and music, scripture readings and reflections, and yet, it is something we have never done before. Join us for a moving service to honor this dear loved one who dies in a most painful way.
Following worship, we will gather, as is our tradition, for a collation (of sorts) in Parish Hall. We will not bring out the fine silver or candelabras, however. It just doesn’t feel appropriate for this occasion. So, our “collation” gathering will be a simple potluck supper: soup, salad and bread. You are invited to bring one of those items, and place it on the serving table in Parish Hall before the memorial service. If the soup can be brought in a crock pot, that would be appreciated. Then, we will enjoy a simple meal together following worship, to continue our reflections on and remembrances of Jesus’ life, and to enjoy one another’s company.
We are, all beloved friends of Jesus Christ. Join us as we honor his life in our memorial worship and in our potluck supper collation on Friday, April 3 at 6:00 pm.
Our sanctuary will be open for silent reflection and meditation between the hours of 12 noon and 3 pm. Stop in for a few minutes, or linger for a while longer, to reflect on Jesus’ life and death. Poems and prayers are available for your self-guided reflection.
