Dirty Sunday
Twice each year in the spring and again in the fall, our church family bands together for outside landscaping and grounds clean-up.
Dressed in our work clothes, we meet on Sunday morning before worship. Bringing our rakes, brooms, cutters, blowers, gloves and a joyful heart, we pride ourselves in helping to make God’s house so inviting!
Families of all ages enjoy time to laugh and talk and even whistle while we work! When the church bell rings, and our work is complete, it is time to enjoy a hearty breakfast together in Parish Hall and then it’s off to worship, dressed just as we started.
First Aid & CPR Community Program
Three class program 6-9pm. Join us for this important program being offered each winter season at Second Church. The American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid and CPR program is open to both first-time students as well as those desiring certification renewal. All church members and community friends are welcome. Learning techniques include films, lectures, and skills practice including instruction in using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Each class will include a dinner (free-will donation), beverage and lots of fun! Watch for program information and on-line registration during time of class offering.
Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s spirit dwells in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16
Advent Workshop
For almost 50 years Second Church has sponsored the Advent Workshop for children and families. Held on the second Sunday on December, this afternoon event invites children young and old to create handmade holiday gifts for loved ones. Craft tables are hosted by church members and are guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit.
Polar Express Movie and Dinner
All aboard for the Polar Express – a tradition here at Second Congregational Church. Sponsored by our Communications Committee, the Parish Hall is transformed into a train station and all will delight in the big screen and surround sound showing the feature movie – The Polar Express!
After entry at the ticket booth, the Polar Express staff are in uniform and await the arrival of each passenger as they enjoy a potpourri for their senses.
Passengers dressed in their PJ’s can smell the fresh popcorn, all enjoy the dazzling Christmas lights and room decorations, and many sing to the soundtrack as we all prepare for dinner and the exciting ride to the North Pole. “Golden tickets” are ready to be punched by our train conductors walking the aisles. The movie is about to begin on the big screen and surround sound! Upon our return to Boxford in the early evening, the excitement continues with a surprise visit from Santa and special gifts for all!
West Boxford Winter Festival
Join the family friendly festivities at the West Boxford Winter Festival. Held the first weekend in December, West Boxford Village will come alive with holiday cheer with a Holiday Boutique at the Second Congregational Church, a Yuletide Marketplace at Lincoln Hall, and samples of free seasonal ice cream at Benson’s Homemade Ice Cream! Local merchants open their doors for the day and the fun includes: pictures with Santa, hay rides (weather permitting), Christmas trees and holiday greenery, holiday carolers, great food, letters to Santa, and so much more!
